1. Who we are
Shared Finance is operated by Shared Finance ("we", "us"), a service provider based in the United Kingdom. Contact: support@sharedfinance.app.
2. What Shared Finance is (and isn't)
Shared Finance is a tracking-only expense-management app for couples, households, and small groups. It records who paid what, keeps a running balance, and shows budgets and savings goals.
Shared Finance does not:
- Hold, transmit, or move money.
- Connect to any bank account, card, or payment network.
- Execute payments, transfers, or settlements on your behalf.
- Provide investment, tax, legal, or financial advice.
Any actual settlement between household members happens outside the app.
3. Accounts
You need an account to use most features. You may sign in with Sign in with Apple, Google, or an email magic link. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials and device secure.
You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 in the European Economic Area, where applicable) to use Shared Finance.
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter, including expenses, budgets, and invitee email addresses. Inviting someone to a shared space means they will see all financial records in that space.
4. Your content
You retain ownership of the expenses, receipts, notes, and other content you enter into Shared Finance. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display that content solely to provide the service to you and the other members of any space you belong to.
You must not upload content that is illegal, that violates someone else's rights, or that you don't have permission to share.
5. Acceptable use
You must not:
- Use the service to break the law, defraud anyone, or harass another person.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or interfere with the app or backend, except to the extent permitted by applicable law.
- Send automated traffic to our backend or attempt to circumvent rate limits.
- Attempt to access data belonging to another user or household you're not a member of.
6. Fees
Shared Finance is free to use at launch. If we introduce paid features in the future we'll tell you before they take effect, and free features you're already using will remain free unless we specifically say otherwise.
7. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account, or by emailing us. Doing so removes your account and any spaces where you were the only member. Shared history in households with other members remains visible to those members, with your identifying details unlinked.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service or violate these Terms, generally after notice unless the abuse is serious.
8. Disclaimers
Shared Finance is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any data you enter will be permanently retained. Keep your own records of anything you need to preserve.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to your use of Shared Finance is limited to the amount you paid us (if any) for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or GBP 100, whichever is greater. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, goodwill, or data.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law — including liability for fraud, gross negligence, or death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom, nothing in these Terms excludes or limits your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including the right to have a service supplied with reasonable care and skill.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against any claim brought by a third party that arises from your misuse of the service or your breach of these Terms.
11. Changes to the app or these Terms
We may change or discontinue features at any time. If we make material changes to these Terms, we'll notify you in-app before they take effect. Continued use after the change means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to them or to your use of Shared Finance.
If you are a consumer, that does not take rights away from you. If you live in Scotland, Northern Ireland, or a country in the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law that applies where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts there.
