Getting started

Set up your spaces and find the right way to keep your records.

What does Shared Finance do?

A practical overview of the records you can keep together.

Shared Finance helps you record spending, plan a budget, review statements and keep shared expenses clear across personal, household and group spaces. It brings together information you enter or import.

The app does not connect to your bank or move money. You remain in control of each record; any real payment happens through your bank or payment provider.

How do I get started?

Start with a space, then add the records you want to track.

  1. Sign in or create an account in the app. Your Personal space keeps your own records separate.
  2. On Home, choose the space you want to use. Use a Household for ongoing shared finances or a Group for a trip or other shared cost.
  3. Tap the center + to log your first expense. Choose the amount, date and category, check the space, then save.
  4. Use Activity to review your records, Plan for bills, goals and shared costs, and Tally to ask a question.

If a screen or option described here is missing, use the latest app version available to you. Some newer controls need a current build.

What is the difference between Personal, Household and Groups?

Each space has its own records and people.

Personal is your own ledger. Household is for ongoing shared spending with someone you live with or manage money alongside. Groups are for costs such as a trip, flatshare or one-off event.

Records belong to the space where you add them. Check the active space before logging or reviewing something.

Link to this answer
How do I share a Household with someone?

Invite the other person into your shared space.

  1. Open Settings and find Your spaces near the top.
  2. If you have not created a Household, tap the dashed Household pill marked Share a budget, then Set up household. If you already use one, tap its pill to switch to it, then tap Members & invitations and choose Invite a partner or Invite someone.
  3. Choose Link & QR to share a join link, Email to send an invitation, or Username for someone already using the app.
  4. The other person opens the invitation and follows the steps to join.

Creating a Household and inviting your partner is free. Members can see information in that space; your Personal space stays separate.

Which plans can I use, and can I subscribe on the website?

Check the app for current plan and purchase availability.

Shared Finance describes Free, Solo and Household options. Solo and Household cover different people; the Premium feature set is intended to be the same. In Settings, open the Premium option if it is shown to review current choices and Apple storefront pricing. The row label can reflect your current plan. A plan label or website price does not mean a purchase is available.

Website pricing pages explain the plans but do not currently complete a web purchase. A plan shown in product information does not guarantee that checkout or an introductory offer is available to you. Apple confirms in-app price and eligibility before any purchase.

How can I sign in to Shared Finance?

Use the sign-in method already connected to your account.

The sign-in screen offers Continue with Apple, Continue with Google, or an email sign-in link. If you previously set a password, tap Have a password? to show the password field; the email link remains available.

To return to existing spaces, choose the sign-in method you used for that account. If you cannot see your records after signing in, sign out and try the original method, or contact support for help.

Link to this answer
What if my sign-in email does not arrive?

Check the address and mailbox, then request a fresh sign-in link.

  1. Check that you entered the email address used for your account.
  2. Look in Spam, Junk and any focused or promotions folder.
  3. Return to the sign-in screen, enter the address again and request a new link.
  4. Open the newest message on the same device where Shared Finance is installed.

If the link opens a browser but not the app, return to Shared Finance and try the email link again. A password sign-in is available only if you previously set one. Contact support if you remain locked out.

Spaces and sharing

Understand who can see each record and how shared spaces work.

How do I keep a purchase personal?

Choose the Personal space when you add it.

Switch to Personal before adding a purchase you do not want in your Household or a Group. A record is visible to the members of the space it belongs to, so check the active space shown in the app before you save.

Moving a record later can change who can see it. If you are unsure, open the record details and confirm its space.

Link to this answer
How do I switch spaces?

Use the space selector to open the ledger you need.

Use the space selector in the app to move between Personal, Household and Groups you belong to. The active space controls which spending, budgets and people you are looking at.

If a space is missing, check that you accepted its invitation and that you are signed into the account that joined it.

Link to this answer
Why can I view something but not change it?

Some members have read-only access.

Some spaces let a member view records without editing them. If an edit, delete or contribution control is missing or disabled, your role may be read-only. Ask a space administrator to check your access.

Shared records remain subject to the space's membership and access rules.

Link to this answer
How do I leave or remove a space?

Space management is available from Settings.

Open Settings and tap See all beside Your spaces to open Spaces & groups, which lists the spaces and groups you belong to. For the space you are in, choose Hide, leave or delete…; for a group, you can also use the ⋯ beside its name. Your Personal space cannot be left or deleted. The available actions depend on the space and your role; leaving a space and deleting it for everyone have different effects. Read the confirmation carefully before proceeding.

If you only want to stop using a space for now, archive it or switch away from it instead of deleting it.

Expenses, receipts and cash

Record purchases, add receipt details and understand currency amounts.

How do I add an expense?

Record the amount, date and useful details in the right space.

The bottom bar is Home, Activity, +, Plan and Tally. Tap + to add an expense, check the active space, enter the amount and currency, then add details such as the merchant, date and category. Review the entry before saving.

If the purchase was shared, record it in the shared space so the right members can see it. For a personal purchase, use Personal.

Link to this answer
How does receipt scanning work?

Scan or choose a receipt, review the result and save it.

When you scan a receipt in Add, Shared Finance reads it on your device and can place the receipt total and item lines into a new expense draft. Check the merchant, amount, currency and items before saving. You can choose Use one total if you do not want an item breakdown.

The phone's text recognition can miss or misread lines, especially on faded, folded or unusual receipts. Correct the draft before saving; scanning does not guarantee every item is recognised.

Link to this answer
How do I itemise an expense?

Add item lines under an existing expense or while creating one.

A new receipt draft can include its recognised items. For a manually entered purchase, choose Add items when available. You can also itemise a saved eligible expense from its details.

Items describe what made up the purchase; they do not create separate expenses. The item amounts must add up to the expense total. If the receipt total differs, check the difference line for a discount or other charge. Itemising an existing expense does not change its saved amount or statement match.

Link to this answer
Why does the receipt breakdown include a difference line?

The item lines are adjusted to match the amount you logged.

The saved expense amount remains the total you entered or accepted. If the receipt's listed items add up to a different amount, the breakdown can include a Discount or Other charges line so the items still add up exactly to the expense.

Check taxes, delivery, bag fees, discounts and whether the receipt belongs to this purchase. Edit the item lines if the difference is wrong.

Link to this answer
How do I record a purchase made in another currency or with cash?

Keep the purchase currency and payment method clear.

Enter the currency in which you made the purchase and keep the amount as shown on the receipt. A reference conversion in the app is for comparison; the original purchase amount remains the record to review.

Where the current capture screen offers payment details, choose Cash or the relevant method and enter a bank debit separately if it differs from the purchase amount. Availability of newer capture controls depends on your app version.

Link to this answer
How do I correct or remove an expense?

Edit its details or use the record's delete action.

Open the expense to review its details and edit the field that is wrong. If it is a duplicate or should not be in the ledger, use its delete action and read the confirmation first.

Deleting an expense can also remove its attached receipt images. If the expense is part of a statement review, revisit that review afterward to make sure the match still reflects your records.

Statements, alerts and the Inbox

Import records for review and recover items waiting for your attention.

How do I check a bank statement?

Import a file and review the suggested matches before applying changes.

  1. Open Settings → Records → Import & statements → Check a statement, or Home → Accounts → Check a statement.
  2. Select a statement file from your device. Shared Finance supports common tabular exports such as CSV and spreadsheet files, as well as supported PDF statements.
  3. Choose the account and period, then review the suggested matches and unmatched lines.
  4. Decide what to keep or change. If you have let Tally read your statements, the text of the file is sent to our AI provider to be read — never the file itself; otherwise your phone reads it. The app does not edit your bank account.

You can import a statement without giving Shared Finance a bank login.

Link to this answer
What should I do with a suggested statement match?

Check the evidence, then choose the action that fits.

A match is a suggestion that a statement line and an expense may describe the same purchase. Check the merchant, date and amounts. If they are the same, confirm the match. If the suggestion is wrong, decline it and choose the correct record or action offered on screen.

Review any unmatched line as well. It may be a missing expense, a transfer, a refund or something you do not want to record.

Link to this answer
What if my statement shows a purchase I never logged?

Review the line and add or dismiss it deliberately.

Open the unmatched statement line and check whether it is a purchase you want in your records. You can keep it as a new expense, link it to an existing expense if the app offers a suitable match, or dismiss it if it is not spending to track.

Do not accept a suggestion just to clear the review. You can return to the Inbox to continue an open review.

Link to this answer
Which statement files can I import?

Use a file exported by your bank and check that it covers the period you expect.

Statement review accepts supported CSV, spreadsheet and PDF files. Banks format exports differently, so check the date range, debit and credit columns, and currency when the preview appears. A photo of a card or account screen is not a statement file.

If a file will not open, export it again from your bank as CSV or PDF, save it locally, then retry. Do not email your bank password or account login to support.

Link to this answer
Where can I find a statement or alert after it arrives?

Use the Inbox to reopen an item that still needs review.

Open Settings → Records → Import & statements → Inbox to see statement and alert items that are waiting for a decision. While anything is waiting, Home → Accounts shows the count and an Inbox row too. A notification can help you notice an arrival, but the Inbox is where you continue the review.

If you shared files from another app, return to Shared Finance and look for the shared-items prompt. Review or remove each queued item there.

Link to this answer
Can Shared Finance read bank alert emails or texts?

Alerts need to be forwarded or shared to the app, then you review them.

Shared Finance does not log into your bank or read your mailbox. You can set up a mail filter to forward a bank alert to the address shown in the app, or share a supported bank text from your phone's share sheet.

The service checks the sender and subject to recognise an alert, but does not extract the transaction from the message. The app parses it on your device. If the phone cannot read it, the app may offer a Tally fallback; review the consent and proposed expense before continuing. If an email arrives but no alert appears, check the forwarding rule and the Inbox; the bank must send the alert to your own email address first. The email route is set up from an account in Shared Finance; you cannot give the forwarding address to your bank as a replacement for your registered email.

Link to this answer
What are Accounts in Shared Finance?

Accounts tell statement review which card or bank record a file belongs to.

Accounts are labels and details you add so statement review can keep different cards or bank accounts straight. Shared Finance does not log in to the institution or fetch transactions automatically.

Open Home → Accounts, or Settings → Records → Import & statements → Accounts. Choose Add an account and enter the information requested. The account is a reference for imports and review, not a live bank connection.

If you use email forwarding, create the account first and set up its forwarding address from that account's screen.

Link to this answer
How do I record a refund?

Link a statement credit to the purchase it refunded.

During a statement review, a credit may be flagged as a possible refund of an expense you logged. Check the purchase and credit carefully, then choose Yes, it's a refund if they belong together. The app records the refunded amount against that expense, including partial refunds.

If the credit is not a refund, choose the option that describes what it was. Income is not currently tracked as a separate ledger; transfers and loan repayments have their own review choices.

Link to this answer
Does Shared Finance track income?

Income is not a separate tracking feature; review statement credits individually.

Shared Finance focuses on spending, shared balances and plans; it does not currently provide a general income ledger. Statement credits are reviewed as money in rather than automatically counted as income. If a credit is a refund or a loan repayment, use the matching review choice when offered.

Do not label a transfer or deposit as income just to clear a statement line. Choose the description that reflects what happened.

Budgets, bills and goals

Plan spending and record the commitments you want to remember.

How do I set or change a budget?

Add a budget in the space where you want to track spending.

Tap Plan → Monthly budget (Monthly budget · pay-ins in a Household) to review the active space total, or Plan → Category budgets to set a category amount. Enter the amount and save. Make sure the budget uses the currency and space you intend.

The default budget period starts with the calendar month. In a Personal space or Household, open Settings and tap Budget month starts on, under Your spaces, to change it; period controls require a recent app version.

Link to this answer
Why does my budget month start on a different day?

A space may use a custom budget start day in a recent app version.

Budgets normally follow the calendar month. A newer version may let a space choose a different start day and, optionally, move a weekend start to the Friday before. The setting applies to the shared space's budget period, not an inferred payday.

The control is Budget month starts on, under Your spaces in Settings, for a Personal space or Household. Update Shared Finance if you cannot find it. Check the period dates shown in the app when reviewing older or current totals.

Link to this answer
How do I plan a savings goal?

Set a target and date to see the amount to put aside each month.

Open Plan → Savings goals and create a goal with a name, target amount and target date. The app can estimate a monthly amount from those details. A goal is a plan and record; Shared Finance does not move money into a bank or savings account.

Review the estimate if your target date or amount changes.

Link to this answer
How do I track a bill or subscription?

Save the expected amount and renewal details so you can review what is due.

Open Plan → Bills & subscriptions and add a bill or subscription with its name, expected amount, frequency and next due date when known. Mark it paid after you have paid through your bank or provider. A reminder is a prompt to review; the app does not pay or cancel the service for you.

If the charge changes, update the saved amount so future planning uses the figure you expect.

Link to this answer
What is the monthly check-in?

Use it to discuss plans and record what each member agreed to.

Open Plan → Monthly check-in to review the month with Household members and write down proposed next steps. A plan can be labelled as a budget, goal, contribution or other item, and members can acknowledge or withdraw their own agreement.

A check-in does not change a budget or move money automatically. Apply any agreed change on its own screen.

Link to this answer
How do Household monthly pay-ins work?

Set each person's planned amount into the joint pot under Monthly pay-ins.

With your Household active, open Settings and tap Monthly pay-ins, under Your spaces, or open Plan → Monthly budget · pay-ins. Under Monthly pay-ins, set the planned monthly amount for each member. The total helps describe the Household's planned shared budget.

A pay-in is a plan and record. It does not transfer funds. Money spent out of pocket is kept separate from spending marked as paid by the Joint pot.

Link to this answer

Groups, splits and the joint pot

Track shared costs and repayments for trips, flatshares and other groups.

How do I create a group for shared costs?

Create a Group space and invite the people involved.

Open Plan → Groups & trips to start a Group for a shared activity such as a trip or event, then add or invite its members. Check that the group name and roster are right before logging costs.

Group records belong to that group. You can review who paid and each person's share in the group workspace.

Link to this answer
How do I split a group expense?

Choose an equal, share-based or item-based split when you add it.

Add the expense in the Group and choose how to divide it: equally, by shares, or by items when that option fits. Review the participants and amounts before saving. If someone paid a different amount from the purchase total, enter the details shown on the capture screen carefully.

Split calculations create a record of who owes what. They do not charge anyone.

Link to this answer
Can someone without the app take part in a group?

A guest can see their share through an invitation link or share card.

Some group flows support guests who have not joined the app. A guest invitation or share card can show the amount allocated to that guest, while the full group record remains in the app for members.

If the person installs and signs in, they can follow the invitation to see the record available to them. The app does not collect payment from a guest.

Link to this answer
How do I record a repayment?

Record that money changed hands outside the app.

Open the relevant group balance or expense and choose the repayment action. Enter what was actually paid and save it. A repayment updates the group's record of the remaining balance; it does not send money or confirm a bank transfer.

If you record the wrong repayment, use its remove action if available, then record the correct amount. Check the confirmation because removing a repayment changes the displayed balance.

Link to this answer
What is the Group joint pot?

It records group contributions separately from expenses and debts.

Where the Joint pot controls are available in your app version, members can record one-off contributions and the group can track how much has been contributed and used. A pot contribution is separate from an expense and does not increase group spending or create a debt between members by itself.

Contributing in the app records what happened; it does not move money into a real account. Update the app if you do not see this screen.

Link to this answer
Why are group spending and repayments different totals?

Spending, shares, repayments and pot contributions answer different questions.

Group spending is the cost of purchases. A member's share is what the group assigned to them. A repayment records money sent or received outside the app. A Joint pot contribution records money put into the group's tracked pot.

Recording a share does not repay a debt, and pot contributions do not count as purchases. Open the expense, People and pot views to see each part of the picture.

Link to this answer

Loans between people

Keep a record of money lent or borrowed and repayments made elsewhere.

How do I record money I lent or borrowed?

Create a loan record with the direction, person and amount.

Open Plan → Loans and create a record. Choose whether you lent money or borrowed it, enter the other person's name, amount and currency, and add a due date if you agreed one.

A loan record is not a bank transaction. It does not move money or include interest.

Link to this answer
How do I record a loan repayment?

Add each payment as it happens outside the app.

Open the loan and record the amount and date of the repayment you received or sent. The outstanding balance is based on the principal and saved repayments. You can record multiple partial repayments.

Shared Finance does not collect the payment. If a repayment was entered incorrectly, edit or remove the record as the screen allows.

Link to this answer
Can I share a loan record with the other person?

Loan sharing is optional and requires the other person to accept.

Where loan sharing is available, you can send a loan to the other person's account by the contact method offered in the app. They must accept before it appears for them. Each side can record repayments, and the person receiving a repayment confirms it.

Do not send a loan invitation to an address unless you know it belongs to the right person.

Shopping lists and price watch

Keep a shared list and use past purchases to plan the next shop.

How do I create and share a shopping list?

Add lines to a list in the active space and tick them off as you shop.

Tap Plan → Shopping list, or use the Shopping List shortcut on Home. Add an item on its own line; you can include a quantity or note. Lists can be shared with other members of that space.

Tick an item when you put it in your trolley. When you are ready, use the shop logging action to record what you bought.

Link to this answer
Can I scan a paper or photo shopping list?

The phone reads the list; review every line before adding it.

Choose the scan option and take a photo or select one from your library. Text recognition runs on your device. Review and edit the lines, especially any marked “Check this”, before adding them to the list.

If you choose Read with Tally, the app asks first and sends that one photo to Anthropic for reading. The image is not stored by Shared Finance. You can skip that option and type the items yourself.

Link to this answer
Why does my basket show items without a price?

Some list lines have no usable estimate from past purchases.

A basket estimate uses prices from your recorded purchases where a suitable price is available. It is not a live quote from a shop. The summary says how many items are priced (for example, “5 of 6 priced”), so the estimate may be lower than what you pay.

Log itemised purchases and check item names and quantities to improve the usefulness of future estimates.

Link to this answer
How does Price watch work?

It looks at repeated item prices in your recorded receipts.

Price watch compares prices for items you buy repeatedly, using purchase details you have recorded or scanned. It can help you notice how an item's price changes over time or differs between shops.

It is based on your past records, not a live store feed. Similar item names or pack sizes can affect the comparison, so review the item details when a result looks surprising.

Tally and connected assistants

Use the in-app assistant and understand exactly when data is shared.

What can I ask Tally?

Ask about your records or request a supported action.

Tally can answer questions about spending and planning in the active space, and help with supported tasks such as logging or changing a record, adding to a list, or recording a loan. Check the details it proposes before you confirm.

For an action, the app carries it out through its normal record flow and shows an Undo where supported. Tally cannot move money, place an order or make a payment.

Link to this answer
How do Tally actions and Undo work?

Review the proposed details and use Undo promptly if needed.

When you ask Tally to make a change, it turns your request into a proposed structured action. Review the amount, currency, date, category, person and space shown by the app. The app performs the change only through its normal controls.

Use the Undo shown on a supported action if it was wrong. For anything without an Undo, open the record and correct it directly.

Link to this answer
What information is sent when I use Tally?

Your message and relevant record details are sent to answer it.

When you use Tally, Shared Finance sends your messages and the record details needed to answer your question to Anthropic's Claude service. Depending on the question, that can include relevant spending amounts, dates, merchant or item names, categories and who paid. Do not include details you do not want processed.

Voice is transcribed on your phone. Audio is not sent by Shared Finance; text is sent when you press send or pause in voice conversation. You can turn off Tally in Settings → Privacy & data → Privacy & security.

Link to this answer
How do I connect Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant?

Start from the connection guide and approve only a tool you recognise.

Read the connection steps at Connect your AI assistant. You sign in and approve the named tool on our website. The connected tool can read supported records in spaces you belong to, but it cannot add, change or delete Shared Finance records.

The company running that assistant has its own privacy terms for data it receives. Read those terms before approving. You can disconnect a tool in the app, under Settings → Privacy & data → Connected apps, or on the website.

Link to this answer
How is an external assistant different from Tally?

An external assistant receives data only after you connect and approve it.

Tally is the assistant inside Shared Finance. Its messages and the relevant data for your question are sent to Anthropic when you use it.

A separate assistant connection is optional and begins only after you sign in and approve the named tool. The tool can read supported records, but its provider controls what it does with the data after receipt. Disconnecting stops future access through that connection.

Reports, CSV and spreadsheets

Explore your saved records and choose an export that fits your workflow.

Where can I see spending reports?

Open Insights and Reports for summaries of saved records.

Open Activity → Insights → Trends & reports. Reports summarize records in the selected space and period. Check the space, date range and currency context before comparing figures.

Reports describe the information in Shared Finance; they do not fetch transactions from your bank.

Link to this answer
How do I export my data as CSV?

Use Your data, under Privacy & data in Settings, to create a file you can save or share.

Open Settings → Privacy & data → Your data. Under Take it with you, choose Export spends (CSV), or Everything, as spreadsheets for every table as CSV files in one ZIP, and use the iOS share sheet to save the files or send them to an app you trust.

CSV exports are files from the time you create them. They do not update when your records change. Keep the file somewhere private because it may contain financial details.

Link to this answer
Can Shared Finance keep a spreadsheet updated?

Live export is one-way and reads records from a secure link.

Depending on your app version and account, Shared Finance may offer spreadsheet options with different privacy and setup tradeoffs. Live export supplies a read-only feed that a spreadsheet can refresh; it does not send edits back into the app. A separate bring-your-own-sheet connection is designed to write app records into one sheet you choose, from your device. Where offered, both are in Settings → Records: Live export, and Your spreadsheet for a sheet of your own.

Connected spreadsheet availability and plan requirements depend on your current app build and account. Review the in-app explanation before connecting; disconnect or revoke access there if you no longer want it.

Link to this answer
Who can see my connected spreadsheet?

Anyone with access to a shared sheet may see its contents.

A Live export link can be read by people who can access the spreadsheet where you place it. Keep the link private and check the sheet's sharing settings.

For a bring-your-own-sheet connection, the app asks you to choose a sheet and writes from your device. The Google permission is limited to the file you select; Shared Finance does not receive your Google token or read your sheet on its servers. A sheet's own collaborators can still see what is written there.

Widgets, Siri and Spotlight

Open records or use supported actions from iPhone features.

How do I add a Shared Finance widget?

Add a budget or Shopping list widget from the iPhone Home Screen widget gallery.

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of your iPhone Home Screen.
  2. Tap the add-widget control and search for Shared Finance.
  3. Choose Budget, Personal budget, Household budget or Shopping list, select a size and add it.

These are Home Screen widgets. If figures are hidden in the app, the budget widgets follow that privacy setting. Widgets may need the app opened once to refresh their information.

Link to this answer
Why is my widget blank or out of date?

Open the app in the relevant space and allow it to refresh.

Open Shared Finance, switch to the space you want and wait for its records to load. Then return to the Home Screen. If needed, remove and add the widget again.

Check that the app is signed in and has a connection. A hidden-balance setting can mask budget figures; the Shopping list widget does not show prices.

Link to this answer
What can I do with Siri or Shortcuts?

Siri supports selected Tally, expense and shopping-list tasks.

Shared Finance provides selected Siri and Shortcuts actions, such as asking Tally, logging an expense or reading and adding shopping-list items. To let Siri and Spotlight find supported records, turn on Siri & Spotlight in Settings → Privacy & data → Privacy & security. Siri may ask you to provide details before it runs an action.

Check the spoken confirmation and the record in the app. Some actions need a network connection and a signed-in account; Siri explains when it cannot complete one.

Link to this answer
Can I find a Shared Finance record with Spotlight?

Some spaces, expenses and bills can be indexed for iPhone search.

On supported iOS versions, Spotlight can show selected Shared Finance spaces, expenses and bills. Tap a result to open it in the app. Search indexing is off until you enable Siri & Spotlight in Settings → Privacy & data → Privacy & security. It stops when disabled.

If nothing appears, open the app and let it refresh, then check that Spotlight access is enabled in the app's privacy controls.

Privacy, account and troubleshooting

Manage privacy choices, account access, notifications and common problems.

Are receipts and statements sent to a server to be read?

Only their text, and only with your agreement. A statement file never leaves your phone.

Statements you import. The file stays on your phone and is never uploaded. A CSV or spreadsheet file is always read on your phone. For a PDF or a photo of a statement, if you have agreed to Tally reading your statements, the text read off it is sent to Anthropic to be read, and is not kept: the dates, descriptions, amounts and balances it prints, the bank's name, and patterns from rows you have already ruled on in a review. The app asks before the first statement is sent. If you have not agreed, or you turn off Read statements with Tally in Settings → Privacy & data → Privacy & security, your phone reads it instead. The rows you accept sync to your space.

Statements you email in. Mail sent to your import address is received by our own mail service in London. Its attachments are moved to your household's private storage within seconds and the email is deleted. The file is deleted as soon as you import or dismiss it, and after 14 days either way. When you import it, it is read in the same way as above.

Receipts and categories. Your phone recognises the text on a receipt. If Tally is on, that text is sent to Anthropic to pull out the shop, total and items; the photo is not. With Tally on, the app also sends a shop or payee name to suggest a category, including the description of a statement line you are adding as a spend. If Tally is off, nothing is sent and you fill these in yourself. A receipt photo you attach to an expense is stored with it in your space's private storage.

Shopping-list photos are read on your phone too; one is sent only when you tap Read with Tally for it. Questions to Tally and its other features send what they need to answer. The Privacy Policy has the full detail.

Link to this answer
How do I hide balances or lock the app?

Use the privacy controls in Settings to reduce what is visible on your phone.

Turn on Hide balances in Settings → Preferences; the same switch is also in Settings → Privacy & data → Privacy & security. To lock the app, open Settings → Privacy & data → Privacy & security and turn on Face ID or choose Set passcode. When balances are hidden, supported app summaries and widgets mask figures.

Hiding figures changes what is displayed; it does not remove financial records from the account or other space members' views.

Link to this answer
How do I change reminders and notifications?

Choose notification categories in Settings and check iOS permissions.

Open Settings → Preferences → Notifications in Shared Finance and review the categories you want. You can also change the app's notification permission in iOS Settings.

If reminders stop, check both places, then confirm that the bill or statement date is still correct. A notification is a prompt; it does not make a payment.

Link to this answer
Why did a change not save?

Check the connection and retry after confirming the current record state.

Some screens need a connection to load or save shared records. Check your internet connection, return to the affected screen and refresh. Before trying again, check whether the change already appeared; a delayed response does not always mean the save failed.

If the app shows an error, use its Retry action when available. Keep the app open until a queued item finishes, and do not create a duplicate entry while the first one is still pending.

How do I keep access to a guest account?

Add an email to save the account on another device.

If your account was created without an email, open Settings, tap Save your account (near the top, marked Guest) and follow the steps to attach one. Do this before changing or replacing the phone.

A guest session is kept in the device Keychain and may not be recoverable if the device is lost or erased before you save the account.

How do I delete my account or export my records?

Export first if you need a copy, then use the account controls.

To save a copy first, open Settings → Privacy & data → Your data, then choose an export under Take it with you. To delete the account, open Settings, tap your name at the top to open Profile & account, then choose Delete account and follow the confirmation steps.

Deleting your account removes your access and personal account details. Shared expenses, shares and repayments can remain for the other members of a space, with your identity removed. Review the confirmation and the Privacy Policy before continuing.

How do I contact support?

Send a description of the issue without including passwords or bank logins.

Use the support page to contact Shared Finance. Include your app version, device model, what you were trying to do and the message shown on screen.

Please do not email your bank password, sign-in code, full card number or an unredacted statement. If you attach a screenshot, check it for balances and account details first.
